I hope you are all well and that the turbulence of this year has not been too harsh for you. I wanted to extend my continued gratitude for your generosity through the Jane and Alger Mason Memorial Scholarship which I was awarded last year.  My first year at the University of Richmond was nothing short of adventurous, exciting, and full of learning opportunities in and out of the classroom. I finished the year with a 3.71 cumulative GPA. The Richmond education is a satisfying challenge that has lived up to its demanding yet rewarding reputation.  Going into my sophomore year, I intend to double major in business and music. I am not sure what direction I’ll take in those fields specifically. I am leaning towards marketing/management.  However taking new classes may very well change my mind, but that is the beauty of education! Competing on our Division I swim team has also added another level of commitment and dedication to staying focused on academics and athletics. Through dealing with some injuries and sickness, I ended the season on a high note, placing in finals at our conference championships as a freshman.  I also enjoyed getting to bond with an incredibly inspiring group of young women, dedicated to their studies and each other. While returning to campus in a few weeks will be different and uncertain, I know that as long as we continue to get a quality education, I have no reason to complain.  We cannot control externalities, all we can do is control our attitude.  Thank you for reminding me of the kindness there is in the world, and helping support my pursuit of higher education , which I am grateful for getting the opportunity to.  I hope that by following the examples set by your family, Jane and Alger Mason, and many others, I can do my part to make a positive impact.- Mattie Williams – 2020

I am writing to thank you for the extremely generous $8,000 Poodles Hanneford Scholarship. I feel extremely honored that I have been chosen as a recipient for this award for a third year. This scholarship as helped me in so many ways over the years: it has saved my family and me a lot of money for college so that when I graduate, I will have much more money to set aside and utilize when I head to New York City to try and make my dreams come true. Without your unwavering support, this goal would be just that much harder to achieve. With this scholarship, I have less to worry about financially and can put much more emphasis on my craft. Thank you again for your generosity and support over the years. This year I will work harder than I ever have to be the best performer that I can possibly be.  – Anna Heacock 2013

I am the recipient of the Poodles Hanneford Scholarship for the Performing and Written Arts for the 2013-14 academic year. I am incredibly grateful for your kindness in helping hard working students continue their education. I was born in southern California, but grew up in the small town of Lake George in upstate New York. I spent the vast majority of my time reading, and subsequently dreaming of traveling to the places described on those pages. As a result, I have held reading close to my heart. I hope to eventually become an editor for a major book publishing company that helps bring books to children around the world. This scholarship has given me the confidence boost I need to continue toward completing my education and realizing my full potential. I know now I will never lose the drive to continue getting lost in the pages of a book and in turn helping others transform their good stories to outstanding ones. It is because of donors such as yourself that I am able to continue growing and learning. Thank you again for your generosity. – Emily Elicker 2013
